COMMISSIONING AND PREMIERE
Second Visit to the Empress premiered at the American Dance Festival in 2005 as a work in process and in 2007 at the State Theater as part of Lincoln Center Festival. It was co-commissioned by New York City Opera, Het-Muziektheater Amsterdam, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and the American Dance Festival with support from the Doris Duke Awards for New Work and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Additional support provided by the Asian Cultural Council.
This production was made possible by the Doris Duke Fund for Dance of the National Dance Project, a program administered by the New England Foundation for the Arts with funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, The Ford Foundation, The Andrew W.
