"Shen Wei's dancers are a breed apart: lissome, precise, expressive-and totally at one
with a choreographic vision that makes philosophical reflections into remarkable, affecting dance."

FIVE STARS

Mary Brennan, The Herald, Scotland

New York City
Mon, July 30 - Sat, August 11

Barnard College
Department of Dance

Open to all professional and pre-professional dancers, age 18 and older.

ABOUT

During the past decade, Shen Wei has developed a dance technique with which he trains all of his dancers. Known as Natural Body Development, the technique has served as a signature element of the choreographic movement in his works since the company’s inception.

This is a unique opportunity to study intimately with the company members of Shen Wei Dance Arts in the world’s dance capital, New York City. The intensive provides an informed pathway for opening the body and mind to new ways of approaching dance.

"Shen Wei's reinvention of the dance vocabulary... flows from any point in his dancers' bodies to any other,
bypassing every convention of dance-as-steps or choreography as a predominantly vertical statement."

-Los Angeles Times
